February 2002 Seminar

"LEGAL ISSUES ON THE WEB"

was presented on Thursday, February 7, 2002 at
Little America Hotel Cheyenne, Wyoming

WHAT THE SEMINAR WAS ALL ABOUT

As businesses, government and individuals use of the web increases, it raises many legal issues on what is allowed (or not allowed) on web sites.

Copyright and Fair Use - What can you do? What are our fair use rights?

Digital Issues: Can you copy another sites design, link without permission, or frame another site?

Web Site Trespassing and Trademark Issues

Defamation on Web Sites - What can you use on a web site? (Video clips, audio files, logos, characters, graphics)

Developing Web Site Legal Page that includes Notices and Disclaimers, Terms and Conditions

Licensing and UCITA Issues

This seminar focuses upon copyright and related property/intellectual property issues in web site use and design and other digital sources of information; it is not about crimes, or financial privacy laws.

WHAT IS UCITA?

UCITA is the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act. It is a contract law statute that applies to computer software, multimedia products, computer data and databases, online information, and other such products. Proponents argue that UCITA provides a unified body of law applicable to software and information license transactions while Opponents argue that UCITA gives software manufacturers and information services an unfair advantage and leaves consumers with little recourse when they find themselves with bad software.

There were 87 attendees and four vendors present
