The National Historical Publications and Records
Commission (NHPRC), has awarded the Wyoming State Historical Records Advisory
Board (SHRAB) $66,000 for the next 18th months of activities. NHPRC is a branch
of the National Archives and Records Administration. The Wyoming SHRAB was
funded $20,000 to carry out project activities aligned with our board's current
strategic plan. In addition, the board requested $50,000 in additional funds for
subgrants or collaborative projects, but only received $46,000 due to budget
limitations at NHPRC. These supplemental funds were competitively, and we are
fortunate to receive them. The purpose of this grant program is to build a
national archival network by strengthening archives and historical records
programs in each of the states. The Commission reviews applications and awards
grants to State Historical Records Advisory Boards in each state, or to the
state agency responsible for the SHRAB, which is the Wyoming State Archives. The
funds will be used to provide statewide archival services, including
professional education, public information about records and archival programs,
and other activities to implement state plans. At their next meeting which is
scheduled for June 9 in Lander, the board will discuss other options including
grant programs for eligible archives, manuscript repositories, and other
organizations within the state; collaborate on projects with other organizations
to address common problems, the challenges and opportunities facing historical
records keepers and users; implement strategies and programs to address pressing
archival issues, and participate in national archival organizations. Over the
last year, the Wyoming SHRAB has provided several workshops on preserving and
managing records and information, disaster planning and recovery, and other
educational activities including the New Deal celebration, the Midwest States
Micrographics Conference. Many of these activities involved the Wyoming Chapter
of ARMA International. This grant will increase the level of board activity,
since it has been struggling to provide a tremendous amount of services in
Wyoming with a $10,000 grant amount over the last several years. Information
about this grant or the Wyoming SHRAB can be obtained by contacting Tony Adams
