Tour Guide: Heather Roberts

Everyone met in the business office. Heather Roberts began the tour showing the Tape Room. Most of the tapes are DVR (Digital Video Recording). They can reuse the tapes and record over them. The tapes of the newscasts are saved for one week. However, they can save individual stories on file video. The Director's Room is in charge of all scripts and audio. The Master Control Room controls all commercials and someone has to be in this area 24 hours a day. The Editing Bay Rooms are used by the reporters to transfer video tape from the cameras to a master tape to be used for the broadcast. The Newsroom has the reporters' desks and producers' desks. There are video monitors from 2 computers that are linked to New York (CBS) and Atlanta (CNN) so the producers can monitor channels and what the competitors are doing. There is a news meeting every morning in the Newsroom. The reporters generally work on 2 to 3 stories a day. The producers make the newscast come together.

On the final stop of the tour, everyone observed the noon newscast in the broadcast studio. After the conclusion of the broadcast, there was brief question and answer session. For more information on the news station, visit their website at www.KGWN.TV.
