Members and guests met at the Hitching Post Inn in Cheyenne where everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch and visiting with each other. President Rich Wilson introduced and gave the following new member packets and pins to Neal Mix, V.P. of Sales and Marketing for the Black Diamond Group, Mary Bauserman with the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities, and Pat Newbern of Records Management-Wyoming State Archives. We hope to hear more from Mr. Mix about his business. Next Rich introduced our speaker, Cheryl Pederson, and President of the ARMA International. Cheryl is a CRM and employed by Cargill Inc., of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Cheryl Pederson, gave a very informative and interesting PowerPoint presentation on “Privacy in America. Cheryl very aptly explained to us the basics of what “Privacy” meant in terms of rights, records, laws (and breaches of), and what these mean to us personally and professionally. Her interest in “Privacy” began when she viewed a Sandra Bullock movie, “The Net”, which was the story line of a woman who’s identity was stolen electronically, resulting in total havoc, but was a great story line for a movie! One of the many interesting items Cheryl shared was about the USA Patriot Act. Most people believe the name to be exactly what it is. However, USA Patriot Act is in fact, an acronym for “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act. Cheryl’s presentation was well valued by all in attendance. Following the presentation Rich thanked Cheryl and presented her with a gift of thanks (book titled “Pioneer Women”) and briefly spoke about our upcoming February 10th Workshop titled “Records Management in the Digital Age: From IT to Disaster Recovery”, and our Silent Auction which benefits our scholarship fund (allowed us to award 2 scholarships in 2005).
Respectfully submitted by,
