Members and guests met at the Hitching Post Inn in Cheyenne where everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch and visiting with each other. President Rich Wilson reminded everyone of our March 6th Seminar titled “Finding Solutions: Teamwork for IT and Records Management”, and to begin gathering items for our Silent Auction held during the Seminar which benefits our scholarship fund (and allowed us to award 2 scholarships in 2006), and Kristy Anderson handed out the Seminar brochures recently printed. The 50-50 drawing winner was Rich Wilson who donated his proceeds back to the pot for our scholarship fund. Rich then reported our next general meeting would be in April due to our Seminar scheduled for early March,. Rich then introduced Paula Sutton, of Ft. Collins, CO, our ARMA Midwest and Rock Mountain Region Manager, thanking Paula for her hard work with everything she does throughout our region. Paula Sutton then introduced our speaker, Susan McKinney, CRM, and President of the ARMA International. Susan is the Records Manager for the University of Minnesota.

Susan McKinney, gave a very informative and interesting PowerPoint presentation titled “Lightbulb RIM: Harnessing Information to Illuminate Your Colleagues”. Susan’s presentation focused on why we as Records Information Management professionals must always continue to communicate and share the importance of what RIM is, why RIM is important, who we are and what we do. Susan’s format was based on the comprehensive planning module of defining what we want to do, who is/will be involved, what is the goal(s) and how will we do it. Susan’s presentation included issues to be anticipated such as: Perception and consistency, importance of knowledge of ourselves and our organizations, benefits/values of marketing, opportunities through areas not commonly considered as ‘opportunities’ (example: audits which create opportunity for RIM for more organization integrity of compliance, fiscal and management of organization risk), that we strive to positive, to believe in ourselves, our programs, keep ourselves current and relevant, and continue to be open with positive attitudes and new technologies. In closing, Susan thanked everyone for inviting her to come and share her presentation and time, and shared some of the changes ARMA International is undergoing. Susan also reminded everyone of the many resources available for each of us through ARMA. She urged everyone to take advantage of the Web-seminars, publications and to continue to stay tuned to RIM through all possible means available (list serve, etc.). Susan’s presentation was well valued by all in attendance.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
