Members and guests met at Poor Richards in Cheyenne where everyone enjoyed lunch and visiting with each other. President Rich Wilson welcomed everyone and introduced guests, Cal Walls of Sam’s Club and Mary Kiser, with the Public Service Commission. Rich then turned the meeting to Kristy Anderson who introduced our speaker, Col. Steve Smith, of the WY Air National Guard.

Col. Smith gave a very interesting and informative presentation on his tour as the Dept. Commander with the 386th Expeditionary Mission Support. He was responsible for 13 Kuwait, 1 Saudi, and 1 Iraq field-base facilities, and over 800 T-series Airmen embedded with Army. Col. Smith’s objectives included administrative oversight and top cover for Airmen embedded with US Army responsibilities with ATOC, TACON, and ADCON. Col. Smith’s slides offered insights to many interesting processes including staff and location scenes of the Kuwait desert (where free roaming camels are common and even driving hazards as antelope are for us in Wyoming) and the unusual situation with their highways where speeds of over 100 mph are the norm (and fatalities-not injuries, are the normal result of accidents). Other slides were of Sheik Ahmad’s “Diwonyia” (Tuesday dinner and evenings shared with friends of the Sheik), birthdays observed with armed forces personnel, and various field installations maintained under his administrative duty. In summary, Col. Smith explained all records are electronic and maintained through the WY Air National Guard and are available to deployed personnel while they are in the desert. Col. Smith’s presentation was well appreciated by all in attendance.

Following the presentation Rich thanked Col. Smith for taking the time to share his informative presentation and slides. "A raffle drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate from Poor Richard's was held with proceeds being applied to the Chapter's Scholarship Fund. Ramona Christensen was the winner of the drawing."
